Harvest 2005 2005 was a very good growing year at the Parsonage, just like the rest of California. We had our largest harvest of 25 tons, easily beating the previous best of 18 tons in 2003.
Two factors went into a great 2005. First, the heavy winter and spring rains conditioned the soil for a good year by cleansing the salts and thus allowing for good root growth. Moreover, the cleansed soil allowed the roots to efficiently extract needed nutrition. Then, the heavy rains were followed by near perfect conditions in the spring for the flowering and fruit set. The summer was not as warm as in the past but the fruit ripened beautifully. We are very excited about the 2005 vintage.
Harvest Party
The 2005 harvest culminated with our "annual" harvest party on Sunday, October 30th. In anticipation of the reward ahead, the harvest crew quickly picked 4 tons of Cab and 3.5 tons of the upper reserve Syrah in three hours. And they were rewarded for their efforts with a wonderful feast. Thanks to family and friends who helped make the day a success.
