This is an 80% merlot, 20% syrah blend from Arroyo Seco. It is nearly identical to the 2006 red and the 2007 merlot. The nose is marked by cedar, tobacco leaf, red and dark berry and caramel candy. Cherries and black raspberry manifest on the palate with a hint of toasty, caramelly oak at the finish.

Arroyo Seco fruit from the Cedar Lane Vineyard. All of the correct pinot aromatics are here in this “come hither” nose: Bing cherry, red raspberry, strawberry, dried rose petals and tea leaves. Then all of that sweet, sexy, silky red fruit skates gently across your palate in a very pretty form. This is not pinot on steroids!!

Our first ever S.B. comes from our friend Mark Chesebro’s Cedar Lane Vineyard in Arroyo Seco. Frank gets all the credit for this serious style S.B. I say serious because it’s not your summer quaffer style S.B. It makes a full statement in the nose and on the palate. It starts out with a hint of grass and gooseberry, then a burst of grapefruit merging with tropical fruit and leading to a key lime crescendo. Again, rather big for an S.B.

Beautiful dark berry and currant aromatics.  Similar to the elegant 2005 in its exceptional balance but a little fuller and more robust on the palate with well ripened tannins.  Subtle hints of tobacco leaf and chocolate hiding behind all of that luscious dark fruit.  Tastes great now but better as time goes by up to 10 years

Black and red  raspberries, and blueberries on the nose and palate. Also hints of cedar, tart plum, curry spices, ginger and clove on the peppery finish. A lush mouthfeel that gives away quickly to intense mouthdrying tannins and a medium to long finish. A big, powerhouse wine that will continue to develop and mature for the next 5-7 years. Pairs nicely with gamey meats, pork, and fruit forward sauces.
 

The Bordeaux blend lover’s wine. This 85% Petit Verdot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon blend has presented the same consistent nose since its inception as Petit Applique in 2002. Olfactory expressions are perfumey with violets and lavender joined by bright blueberry and dried herbs de provence. Blueberry, blackberry and currants rule the palate with shadings of mineral, dried mushroom, licorice, and sage emerging on the finish. This is a very complex, sophisticated and classical wine.

This is about as massive and highly extracted as a merlot can come. The nose is prominently “cherries jubilee” (without the “flambé”) with wildflowers and plums, the girth of the palate feel is striking for a 100% merlot. Barrel tannins accentuate the backbone but the merlot tannins are pure velvet. Black cherries erupt again on the palate and are joined by a multitude of dark berries followed by toasty brulee notes rising on the finish. This is a very serious merlot!
